ECO YOUR SKIN Moisture Wall Surge Complex

lavlilacs ECOYOURSKIN Moisture Wall Surge Complex Review

ECO YOUR SKIN is a bold one. It is a hefty promise for a brand to not only say their a moisturizer could provide a "moisture wall barrier" but that it could last for 48 hours. While that isn't the tagline that got me to try the Moisture Wall Surge Complex, I can certainly see where they are coming from with that claim after using it myself.

ECOYOURSKIN's description:

Moisture Wall Surge Complex, so-called "Water-Wall Cream", will form a moisturized skin wall to your skin layer for the next 48 hours. This effect improves thin and sensitive skin and heals skin damaged by UV rays.

Directions
After cleansing, use toner to moisturize your skin, then softly apply an appropriate amount of Moisture Wall Surge Complex to the face and neck except the eye area.

Packaging

A thick glass jar with a sturdy plastic screw-on lid. New boxes come sealed with a packaging label. The inside comes with an inner plastic lid for extra security, yet I don't keep it on once opened for quick access. The body of the bottle isn't opaque; it isn't a con here since I could still see how much product remains inside. I am also not too bothered by the underside/lip where the cap has its screw threads only because of the moisturizer's texture (it likes to stick to itself more than the those harder to reach sides).

Color, Texture, Finish, & Scent

The gel has clear coral hue and a strong, fresh fruity plus aloe-y scent. It is weirdly lightweight yet thick at the same time because of its sticky and stretchy consistency. Rather than feeling watery like gel formulations tend to act when blended in, the Moisture Wall Surge Complex has almost a balmy, tacky sensation. Once the skin soaks the moisturizer in it leaves a generally satin finish and some remaining tackiness.

How I Apply

Scoop out a little with a spatula or my fingertip. Gently rub the product between my palms to create a thin layer. Press the moisturizer into my skin. Once I have generally covered my face I quickly and constantly pat all over to help the gel sink in better and lessen the stickiness.

Thoughts & Recommendations

I can't say I don't like it. I will say it isn't my favorite.

Moisture Wall Surge Complex does indeed create a great moisture barrier on the skin. I think it is mainly from its very sticky texture that it is able to adhere and stay so well. Perhaps it could last for 48 hours, but I do double cleanse my face at night and splash with water in the morning so it would effectively disturb, if not remove, said barrier before 24 hours even hits.

I love that I never show any dry patches or cakey makeup while using this moisturizer. It fairs well even when I wear the most matte of sunscreens, concealers, and powders. My skin never broke out from it or felt congested at all.

I just hate the tacky feeling left behind after application. Of course, if I sit long enough that finish becomes very minimal but I like to do my skincare routine and hop into bed; sticky skin, hair strands, pillowcases, and duvets don't mix well. Applying something non-sticky afterward also helps but for those that want minimal steps, this isn't the product to go to.

A repurchase from me, at full retail price, would be next to impossible. $80 is quite a lot for a solely hydrating product with no other actives. Granted, it does what it says well. Despite the heavy discount during the Peach & Lily sample sale, I did not repurchase the moisturizer mainly because I did not enjoy the user experience. Perhaps those with much drier skin would like this more? Those with sensitive skin may not enjoy the formulation's tug and tack nor the fragrance. Oily skin would probably enjoy something with a more barely-there feel.

Olivarrier

lavlilacs Olivarrier Brand Review Toner Essence Cream Oil

Nothing gets me more excited than skincare sales. Nothing is more disappointing than when products others rave about are just alright or, even worse, not compatible with my skin. It seemed like the more skincare I tried from my Peach & Lily sample sale stash, the fewer gems I was discovering. I knew nothing about the brand when bought this set of Olivarrier productst; now I cannot rave about and love it enough.

lavlilacs Olivarrier Dual Moist Toning Lotion packaging

Olivarrier's Toner description:

Say no to controversial chemical ingredients, and yes to natural, healthy skin. Using only plant-derived ingredients provides a fresh, moisturizing feeling. Begin and end your day with this moisturizer for a refreshing start and relaxing finish.

Irritation or excessive use of alkaline cleansers can result in a loss of balance between oil and moisture after cleansing. Skin that experiences this broken balance has a change in pH levels, causing dryness and other skin troubles.

Skin with a pH of 4.4-5.5 claims a mildly acidic, healthy state. This protects from harmful external factors and normalizes skin turn-over. Dual Moist Toning Lotion is a mild acid similar to the pH of healthy skin, reducing irritation to the skin and allowing sensitive skin customers to use it safely.

Without adequate oil content, moisturizers can weaken the skin barrier and cause excessive sebum and dryness. Dual Moist helps to fill your skin with an adequate amount of moisture, resulting in a stronger skin barrier.

Directions
Apply after cleansing to soothe and condition during your skincare routine. Can be layered on multiple times. Follow with Dual Moist Hyaluron Essence.

Olivarrier's Essence description:

With micro-hyaluronic acid, this product provides a deeper level of moisture for your skin. Squalane and tocopherol help prevent oxidation and loss of moisture, helping to maintain healthy and resilient skin.

It is a daily essential essence for all skin including dryness, complexity, and sensitivity. All ingredients are EWG green grade, pH5.5 and 95% natural plant materials.

Supply and balance of oil and moisture are the most important goals of basic skincare. Moisture retention in the stratum corneum produces regular keratin production and elimination, healthy skin protection, and smooth skin texture.

Using micro-hyaluronic acid provides a lightweight moisturizer to help maintain the elasticity of the skin.

Micro-hyaluronic acid is a very small size with a molecular weight of less than 5,000 daltons. It attracts moisture from the stratum corneum of the skin, which can not reach normal hyaluronic acid, to help maintain moisture and elasticity of the skin.

Protect skin from harmful external factors with Dual Moist Hyaluron Essence. With a mild acid similar to the pH naturally occurring in healthy skin, this product reduces irritation and works safely for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

Olivarrier's Cream description:

Pro-vitamin B5 panthenol, squalane, and organic shea butter are highly concentrated to soothe sensitive skin and provide moisture to rough skin. For sensitive and dry skin, this helps create a barrier that is soothing protection to the external environment.

Your skin barrier consists of a combination of lipids on the surface of the skin. It protects the skin from moisture loss and external environmental factors. When the skin barrier breaks down, the moisture evaporates and the skin becomes more sensitive and dry.

Emollient Extra Comfort Cream is made for even the most sensitive skin. The natural formula means it can be comforting to babies, sensitive pregnant women, and all others who suffer from rough or dry skin due to moisture loss. It is a relaxing moisturizing cream that comforts sensitive skin and makes you feel at ease.

Vitamin B5 Panthenol strengthens the skin barrier, helps prevent moisture loss from stratum corneum, and helps calm irritated skin. It is also the main ingredient in baby ointments to treat sensitive skin and dryness. Emollient Extra Comfort Cream contains 5% of highly concentrated panthenol to prevent moisture loss and quickly calm irritated skin.

This cream contains 20% shea butter, which is rich in natural vitamins such as A, D, E, and F. These work to calm skin that has been upset by external stimuli and UV rays. Our shea butter has been extracted from organic grown fruits in cultivated land that has not used chemical fertilizer for more than three years.

Squalene, present in 12% of phospholipids, protects skin against drying and UV rays and helps prevent against harmful environmental factors.

The superior antioxidant effect prevents moisture loss, strengthens the skin barrier, and quickly penetrates without blocking pores to make skin soft.

Directions
Use a dime-sized amount and massage into skin in light, circular motions all over your face. Follow with 100% Fluid Oil to lock in the moisture.

Olivarrier's Oil description:

Fluid Oil uses 100% plant squalane oils that can only be extracted from the best, healthy olives.

The final product is similar to human sebum, keeping the skin fresh without oily sticky residue. It is a fragrance-free, colorless, non-preservative ingredient that is safe for babies and pregnant women. Can be used for all skin types, including dry, sensitive and trouble-prone skin.

Air pollution, stress, unhealthy foods, and heat all contribute to lipid oxidation that leads to skin aging and dryness.

Healthy skin maintains 20-30% moisture and 70-80% oil, but many times dry skin is only given moisture. Fluid oil maintains the lipid barrier and prevents dryness due to lack of oil your skin needs.

Protects skin from ultraviolet rays and peroxide that cause aging and dryness, and prevents roughness and dryness due to moisture loss. It is a non-comedogenic ingredient, meaning your skin can retain moisture without clogging pores. It prevents the accumulation of thick keratin by keeping the keratin moisturized and helps strengthen the skin barrier.

This clear, small bottle contains effective moisturizers for healthy skin, with safe ingredients that can be used by every member of your family.

We have completely eliminated chemical ingredients, and have credibility through clinical and demanding certifications. Responsible thinking about people and the environment creates clean, green products that are also good for your skin.

Packaging, Color, Texture, Finish, & Scent

Each product comes in their own unique package which ultimately fits with their respective consistencies while avoiding too much contamination. What all of them have in common is their clean labeling design. Even though the boxes bombard with information, the actual bottles themselves are simple and concise: name, extremely short description, size, application directions, and expiration.

lavlilacs Olivarrier Dual Moist Toning Lotion bottle details

Toner
An opaque plastic bottle with a screw-on cap. New bottles come with a security seal covering the opening where the product comes out of. Since the product is liquid I did not mind the fact that the bottle isn't see-through (as I could easily shake and feel for it). However, for ease of use, I would have preferred if it had a flip-top cap instead.

The toner is color-less and scent-less. The liquid itself is very fluid and water-like; with no viscosity or stickiness to it. Once wiped or smoothed onto the skin it feels as if nothing is applied yet the skin becomes immediately softer.

lavlilacs Olivarrier Dual Moist Hyaluron Essence bottle details

lavlilacs Olivarrier Dual Moist Hyaluron Essence swatch

Essence
An opaque plastic bottle with a pump dispenser and detachable cap. There is no extra security seal with new bottles. Fret not, it is easy to tell if unused or not since there will be endless pumping of nothing before the product appears. I love using pump dispensers but not so much in non-see through things. It is hard to see if the product is running low. Judging by feel is not accurate either as the thicker viscosity of the essence can cling to the insides of the bottle.

The essence is scent-less and color-less but does have a cloudy, milky look to it straight out of the bottle (which is unnoticeable once blended in). There is some viscosity to it but overall a lightweight, runny fluid. The product spreads into a water-like consistency and sinks in well. The essence does leave a tad tacky feeling unless it is well absorbed into the skin. After my skin drinks it up, it feels as if nothing has been applied yet retains a well hydrating effect.

lavlilacs Olivarrier Emollient Extra Comfort Cream bottle details

lavlilacs Olivarrier Emollient Extra Comfort Cream swatch

Cream (Extra)
An opaque plastic squeeze tube with a screw-on cap. A new tube will have a security seal covering the dispensing opening. Again, I really don't prefer this kind of non-see through packaging. The saving grace with this particular choice is that the tube remains very pillowy and airy inside even after using it a lot so the cream doesn't ever get stuck in corners as how something like a toothpaste tube does.

The cream is scent-less and comes out of the tube white. Don't worry because once blended it leaves no cast. For an "extra" comfort cream, it is surprisingly lightweight and easy to spread. The skin doesn't feel suffocated yet retains its moisture while leaving a velvety matte finish. There aren't any silicones on the ingredients list but that is the most similar texture I could think of (sans the pore-filling aspect).

lavlilacs Olivarrier Fluid Oil bottle details

lavlilacs Olivarrier Fluid Oil swatch

Oil
A transparent (hallelujah) plastic bottle with a dropper cap. New bottles do not come with an extra security seal. Unlike the 3 products mentioned above, I don't have see-through qualms with this packaging. Even though the dropper itself doesn't reach all the way to the bottom of the bottle it gets impressively close. I honestly didn't know that the quality of droppers was a thing until I tried 2 different bottles of squalane oil at once. For those interested, Olivarrier's dropper is far superior; oil does not drip out of the dropper until I am ready to squeeze the dropper bulb.

The oil is a scent-less and super-duper lightweight, dry-type facial oil. It spreads very easily and sinks into the skin well. There is no slippery and slick feel that is typically associated with things "oily" in nature. Unlike the toner, essence, and cream, there is definitely a longer tacky and sheen finish period after applying the oil but it isn't that long either.

How I Apply

After cleansing, pour some Toning Lotion onto cotton and wipe my face and neck.

Then pump the Hyaluron Essence once on each cheek and gently smooth that all over my face and neck. Pat to help the product sink in quicker.

Then squeeze between 1-3 finger lengths worth of cream onto my hand (depending on dry or humid weather and if I  apply to face and neck). Gently dot and spread the moisturizer evenly.

Then squeeze 2-3 drops of oil either directly onto my face (one on the forehead, one on each cheek) and smooth with fingertips light strokes or into my palms first, rub to distribute, and pat into my skin.

*I have used all 4 products altogether and separately (toner + essence, toner + cream, toner + oil). Methods of application are still the same.

Thoughts & Recommendations

I think the last time I tried a full brand or line's worth of products was way back when with Hada Labo. Both are similar in the sense that they hace items that focus on a star ingredient (HL = hyaluronic acid, Olivarrier = squalane) which targets supercharged and moisturized skin.

Unlike Hada Labo, Olivarrier also tries to be as "simple" and "clean" as possible by formulating without color, fragrance, and parabens/preservatives. While all their products are marketed for sensitive skin, there are a few ingredients in certain products that may not work well for certain sensitive skin types (i.e. lavender extract, coconut oil) nor fungal acne (refer to SkinCharisma's ingredients breakdown).

As for myself, I did not react badly to the products at all and find that my skin loves all the moisturizing ability each one has to offer. The set is very versatile in that it works great when using alone, pairing a few or all of them together. Despite the varying weather condition in New York, I could easily customize my routine within the range depending on how dry my skin is. Everything is lightweight enough to use in the most humid of days while keeping the moisture in during the driest of times as well without being too thick and heavy.

I am a little partial because I love these a lot for the price I paid (which is about 1/3 of the retail since I got a while back 2 Peach & Lily sample sale's ago). However, given the actual price point of each item I honestly would only repurchase 2 items at full retail (Toning Lotion and Extra Comfort Cream) and the other 2 only if it were on sale (Hyaluron Essence and Squalane Oil). This is not to say the latter two are bad but it is very pricey compared to the quantity given, especially when compared to the former two. Plus, I believe that for a majority of people the Toner + Cream combo would be more than sufficient to use all year round. The Essence and Oil are just extras for those who truly need them.

Those with dry skin will probably adore this line. I think even those with oily skin would like it simply because of the barely-there finish all the products have. This means that everyone in between, from combination to normal skin, could find something fitting as well. Anyone looking for something gentle and, generally, non-irritating to use along with strong actives may enjoy the Olivarrier line a lot too.

Abib Hydration gel & Hydration crème

lavlilacs Abib Hydration gel & Hydration crème Review

Pitting two moisturizers against one another was never my intention. I bought both the Abib Hydration gel and Hydration crème because the former sounded like it would fit humidity and oilier skin better and the latter in drier conditions. Curiosity got the better of me and I experimented with applying both at once, each on either side of my face and neck, in all weather and skin conditions to potentially see how much they differed from one another. The results were unexpected, to say the least.

Gel
Crafted with natural ingredients and no toxic additives, this lightweight gel sinks deep into the skin, providing thirsty complexions with all-over hydration. The brand's proprietary aqua holding gel matrix actively hydrates the skin with hyaluronic acid, coconut oil, and shea butter. Made specifically for sensitive skin, cactus flower extract assists in protecting delicate skin and helps to maintain its healthy state.

Crème
With 20 natural ingredients and no toxic additives, Abib's Hydration Crème Water Tube is a powerful moisturizer. The brand's proprietary aqua holding gel matrix actively moisturizes the skin with natural hydrants like hyaluronic acid, coconut oil, and shea butter, while replenishing essential moisture to the skin. Ingredients like niacinamide, moringa extract, and mushroom extract provide protection against the signs of aging and help keep skin firm and smooth. The crème is designed to be used as the last step of your skincare routine to form a protective, hydrating layer.

*Polymer Network System // Polymers release water that moisturizers and transport nutrients into your skin, while minimizing the loss due to air friction. In a rolling technique, the nutrients penetrate deeply into the skin, while moisturizing the skin. After absorbing, your skin will feel the tingling sensation of the aqua gel doing its work to protect your skin.

*Aluminum tube minimizes the exposure of bacteria, keeping the ingredients safe and contained. Also has a sturdy inner tube made of LPDE material.

*If cream turns white as you rub, quickly tap your face with your fingertips to allow absorption.

Directions
1. Cleanse and tone skin.
2. Squeeze out a pea-sized amount and lightly tap onto face using your fingertips.

Packaging

Pliable metal tubes with a twist on plastic cap. Abib says it is an aluminum case surrounding a separate plastic tube on the inside. I generally prefer things to be in tube format rather than a jar as there is less introduction of germs but I am not sure I like the metal tube more than an all plastic one. It does get difficult to squeeze the tube to its flattest state and the typical plastic tube squeezers are no match against the metal; a metal tube squeezer key works best.

Having the expiration date stamped on the crimp of the tube makes life easier. However, keeping it too long shouldn't be a problem anyways with regular use as the tube isn't abnormally large. I found it strange that the boxes were well sealed, on the top and bottom, yet only the crème tube had the inner product seal. I wonder if it was an odd batch?

Don't be fooled by the "ingredients" list on the front of the tube. It is merely a highlight of the special ingredients in the formulation of either gel or crème and not the full ingredients list (which can be found on the back of the tube in smaller lettering).

Color, Texture, Finish & Scent

Gel
Looks opaque but is more of a translucent white gel. It is very lightweight and easily spreadable. The gel becomes very watery as it is spread around and looks quite dewy before it is fully absorbed. Even after the skin soaks it up, there is a teeny bit of tackiness and sheen but nothing unbearable. There isn't a discernable scent despite all the oils and extracts in the formulation.

Crème
Compared to the gel, this is a more opaque white lotion that is surprisingly also lightweight and easily spreadable. Like the gel, there isn't much of a scent. Once absorbed it leaves a smooth and soft finish similar to silicone-based primers yet this is formulated without. It doesn't leave any tackiness or residue.

Note: If the crème is rubbed into the skin a little too forcibly, white streaks do form. But that does go away as the product is absorbed by the skin. I found that patting the moisturizer in, as Abib suggests, helps a lot. Otherwise, I personally like light strokes/swipes in one direction to avoid the lotion streaks altogether. The gel doesn't have this problem. Neither pill under makeup.

How I Apply

I squeeze a pea-sized amount, or two if necessary, dot it around my face and neck, and lightly smooth the gel or crème until I have a light even layer.

Thoughts & Recommendations

I started the gel and crème as summer started to wind down; days were still long, hot, and moderately humid for New York while my skin was at its oiliest (but not overbearing). The two tubes were well used day and night well into the windy, cold, and dry winter days. The differences I saw between the left (gel) and right (crème) sides of my face were almost indiscernible.

The typically oily areas of my face (forehead, cheeks, and nose) felt equally soft and moisturized when using. Neither moisturizers broke me out nor irritated my eyes or skin. Both were so lightweight and absorbed well. Other than the initial dewy versus soft matte finish, the only minuscule difference I noticed was maybe the crème side with makeup looked less cakey hours later than the gel side did. On the typically drier and flakier parts of my face (mouth and chin), the crème side seemed to hold its moisture better until the end of the day.

Both products ultimately give confusingly similar results despite their textures and ingredients. I imagined the gel to be great for oily skin given its lightweight and watery consistency but the tackier finish is definitely not what oilier skin types prefer. Likewise, I thought the crème would be nice for dry skin since it has richer and more occlusive ingredients like coconut oil and shea butter yet it is so lightweight and gives a matte finish.

It is hard to say which would be best for one specific skin type given the results I got. The easiest answer would be to say those with combination skin are in for a treat with either tube. The next best case scenario would be to pick depending on what kind of finish is most desirable since they hydrate oily and dry-ish skin about the same. I personally don't think either would work the best for those with extremely parched and flaky skin but take that thought with a grain of salt since I didn't get a chance to experience that extreme of a condition with the gel or crème before I ran out of moisturizer.

Using the Abib Hydration gel and Hydration crème was nice while it lasted. It was a great buy at the price I purchased them for, which was USD $10 each during the Peach & Lily sample sale in 2017. However, it seems too basic of a moisturizer at USD $42 to warrant a repurchase. (Abib doesn't claim either to do anything special outside of deep hydration and both have minimal to no actives like vitamins and the like.) For those who use actives-heavy serums, the gel and crème is a simple but effective option to help seal everything in.

Basics with CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser, PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, and Eye Repair Cream

lavlilacs Basics with CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser, PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, Eye Repair Cream Review

I think the last time I shopped at CVS, Walgreens, RiteAid, or Duane Reade for beauty products was in 2014...a whopping 4 years ago! I hadn't found any beauty product I genuinely loved and would repurchase even once during that 4 year period. Yet it took me only one visit to the drugstore last year to find that item I would repurchase not just once but a total of six times thus far. A single lotion got me being a product loyalist for almost a year. Naturally, I grew curious about any other possible skincare gems the brand might have.

CeraVe has products in three main categories: cleansers, moisturizers (lotions, creams, and balms included), and sunscreen. Their entire brand is based on ceramides—3 to be exact...1, 3, and 6-II—claiming to "keep skin soft all day" with their patented technology. They want to help replenish the ceramides (lipids/fat naturally "gluing" our skin together) back to essentially re-strengthen the skin's barrier. It is a mighty claim to make but it seems to work well for many as I have found in the beauty subreddits.

I guess this isn't a true "Basics with CeraVe" post. I chose not to try any of their sunscreens. In my defense, I read reviews and searched swatch photos and many said the mineral-based UV protectors gives an unfortunately intense white cast despite the "InvisibleZinc" technology. But in terms of trying a different variety of skin care products CeraVe has, a Hydrating Facial Cleanser, a PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion, and an Eye Repair Cream isn't a bad representation of the necessities.

***Testing this new combo-review format out. I am not sure I quite like how long it is, but couldn't figure out how to group things to logically make sense while being condensed for this style of post.

Packaging

Opaque white bottle with a pump. Nothing extraordinary, just gets the job done. I would prefer if the packaging was a tad more translucent if not clear so that I could physically see how much product is left in the bottle. The biggest gripe I have with it is when dried-up cleanser clogs the pump opening, it will cause the product to fly in unpredictable directions during the next squirt.

Color, Texture, Finish, & Scent

Translucent gel-lotion type cleanser that spreads very easily and doesn't have a scent. It is very lightweight and washes away with little to no effort on clean skin. This is not a foaming cleanser. There is no lather whatsoever so skin never feels tight or dry.

How I Apply

Use mostly in the AM after I wake up (when I still washed with cleanser in the mornings). When in the PM, after a cleansing oil or balm.

With wet hands, pump 2-3 times. Rub the product around in my palms first. Then gently massage my face with my hands. Rinse well with water.

Thoughts & Recommendations

I don't think I am ready for non-foaming cleansers. I understand why the Hydrating Facial Cleanser is so beloved by sensitive and drier skin people. It isn't stripping and makes my skin feel soft after a wash. It isn't irritating to rub the product around either.

My brain's connection to "clean" is too strongly linked to lather and bubbles, even if just a little bit. Whenever I use the CeraVe cleanser as a second-step cleanse, I always feel the need to follow up with a cotton round and toner to wipe off "residue". I say in quotes because there isn't ever anything on the pad. Then again...cleansing oils and balms never failed me before; the second-cleanse is just to remove possible oil/balm residue.

Since switching back to a foaming facial cleanser, I have been using the Cerave Hydrating cleanser as a hand cleanser instead for the past few months. My hands get unbearably dry every winter. Using foaming soaps too often only exasperates the crackly tight skin. The biggest challenge I face with the Hydrating Facial Cleanser is against water resistant (mineral) sunscreens. The gel seems to help to unglue the sunscreen from my hands but the lack of a foaming agent means the sunscreen doesn't really lift off from my skin and therefore doesn't wash away with water. If this makes any sense. It is like I rub something that doesn't sink in to my skin around (vaseline-lotion-esque) and then expect it to rinse cleanly. Just doesn't work that way. I always have to thoroughly wipe the remaining residue off with a towel.

That being said, I don't completely hate the product. It just isn't my favorite. I have found a use for it but probably won't run out to the store and stockpile if the bottle is gone.

Packaging

Opaque white bottle with a twist-to-lock pump. I've bought a few bottles of these and some had a white neck and others had a blue one. I am not sure if that is because one is a newer packaging or not.

Again, like the cleanser bottle, it is impossible to see through the packaging (even when held up to the light). The pump dispensing tube doesn't fully reach the bottom either. The only way to find out how much is leftover at the bottom of the bottle when nothing pumps out anymore is to cut it open. Luckily the plastic isn't too difficult to hack through with a box cutter knife. Nonetheless, I am just glad this isn't sold in a jar format.

A bottle lasts me around 1-1.5 months with twice-daily usage.

lavlilacs CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion swatch

Color, Texture, Finish, & Scent

White cream straight out of the bottle; becomes clear as it is worked into the skin. It is very lightweight and has a slippery quality to it (possibly from the dimethicone). Once the lotion is absorbed, it leaves behind a matte-ish finish in the sense that there is no residue or tack but not in the sense that it is completely shine-free.

The lotion leaves skin wherever it is applied to immediately feeling soft. There isn't any scent to the lotion; the ingredients list doesn't show any added fragrance or essential oils.

How I Apply

Squirt 4-6 pumps' worth of lotion (more or less: a pump for each cheek, forehead, chin, and two for my neck) into my palms or directly onto my skin. Spread evenly and then pat.

Use as a hand lotion.

I apply the moisturizer both day and night. There doesn't seem to be any ingredients in it that are sunlight sensitive so I don't see why it can't be used in the daytime as well. Plus, I prefer to use a separate sunscreen so I know for sure I sufficiently cover my face with both cream and SPF.

Thoughts & Recommendations

CeraVe took me by surprise, 100%. Even though I bought it knowing it is a dermatologist recommended product, I have always felt a little indifferent towards drugstore-only skincare.

This lotion doesn't have a particularly captivating design and has a rather simple ingredients list; the standouts are obviously niacinamide and the variety of ceramides. But it also lists a silicone and a fair amount of parabens that we've been told are supposedly "bad". Some say those components are pore-clogging and/or could cause cancer. Some say they have received a bad rap and the quoted studies are old or not well supported. For me, I generally tend to avoid both silicones and parabens but I don't completely ban myself from them either.

Aside from the maybe "harmful" ingredients, I have nothing but nice things to say about the CeraVe PM lotion. My skin has never felt softer, even after I cleanse in the mornings with a foaming cleanser. That is saying a lot to how deeply the moisturizer works. I survived a nearly 2-months long cold, nose rubbed raw and all, thanks to the lotion.

I also think the niacinamide helps a lot with keeping my pores less clogged, especially around the nose and right below the lip. I have noticed a dramatic improvement in my overall skin texture after the many months of using the moisturizing lotion. This isn't to say I am completely blemish-free though, but it is at a much better place than it has been in many years.

However, I don't feel like it is as good for dry skin as CeraVe describes it to be. People with very dry skin may find it too lightweight and the moisture not very longlasting. My skin does an ok job at holding onto the lotion for most of the day but once it gets later a night (6pm+) and/or I've been beaten by strong winds, dry patches really shows through and makes my makeup very cakey. I find myself having to layer other products to compensate, especially on my chin area where the flakes are the toughest.

Since I first bought this at CVS last year around May, I have noticed that the PM lotion has increased by USD $1 (USD $15.49 to $16.49) in my local stores. Target also used to list it at about half of CVS' price (~USD $9) but my most recent search shows it is only about ~70% less now. The brand is recently airing more TV commercials and expanding into newer markets (i.e. into the UK) so I guess it may account for some of the new marketing spendings. Luckily the stores that carry CeraVe has frequent deals and manufacturer's coupons.

Packaging

Opaque squeeze tube with a twist off cap and a precision tip nozzle. I don't mind the lack of transparentness since the packaging is malleable. I easily can feel how much product is left by utilizing the tube squeezing contraptions.

I have come to appreciate the fact that an eye product comes in a tube format and not a jar. I also love the pointed tip as opposed to a typical blunt end found in other tubular container goods.

lavlilacs CeraVe Eye Repair Cream swatch

Color, Texture, Finish, & Scent

Following the theme of all other CeraVe products...their eye cream is also a bit white but the translucent stiff cream eventually blends out clear. There is no scent and is also very lightweight.

The cream can come out sort of curdle-y. Sometimes there are spots in the tube where the formulation is a little separated and bits of liquid squirts out along with the lotion.

How I Apply

Squeeze the cream directly onto my undereye area, following the dark circle U shape. Use my ring finger to lightly press down on the cream to break it down. Gently rub and tap the product in.

Thoughts & Recommendations

The Eye Repair Cream is, disappointing to say, just average. It is a very bare-boned eye cream and great for those who just want an extra layer of hydration under the eyes, but I don't think it does what the brand says it would do (reduce dark circles, brighten, and smooth). Granted, I did not decide to buy this eye cream because of the promised benefits. I just wanted something moisturizing for the under eyes. Even still the amount of hydration isn't mindblowing. Okay not great. Definitely not enough for very dry skin types.

For the price, I think the PM Lotion does an equally good job and costs the same if not less (depending on the vendor) while offering more product. The texture isn't the best either. The biggest thing it has going for it is the packaging. An overall pass from me.

Impulsive online purchases are a huge gamble with luck. Cheap prices and cute packaging draw me in and the next thing I know it arrives on my doorsteps and greets me in reality. My expectations weren't high since Papa Recipe is a new brand to me. Both products in the Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Pudding Set far exceeded any minuscule expectations in their own respects.

Packaging

Mask // Comes in a highly flexible plastic tube with a screw on cap. I like the cute designs on the packaging and appreciate the fact that there is negative space to let the transparent tube peak through. I would prefer if the cap was a flip-top one instead.

Cream // Comes in a clear plastic jar. I won't comment too much on it since it is just a sample. It is what it is and serves its job.

The peeling mask only comes in this set, in one size. The cream is available in a larger size.

Color, Texture, Finish, & Scent

Mask // Clear with some specks of gold-like particles. It is super sticky and tacky. it feels and smells exactly like honey. Thus, the formulation is difficult to spread.

Cream // Transparent gel with a tinge of yellow-orange color. It has an interesting texture: jello-like and keeps its shape after it is scooped out of the jar. But after a while, the indent in the jar will flatten out by itself and the glob that is in your hands will start to become runnier. Just like the mask, it smells just like honey. Unlike the mask, it is neither sticky nor difficult to spread.

How I Apply

Mask // Spread an even layer across my entire face (avoid eyebrows and hairlines) after cleansing. Thin layer dries in 10-15 mins. Thick layer dries in 25-30+ mins. I found that I waste a tad less if I directly squeezing the product onto my face and spread versus putting it on my finger and then applying.

Cream // Generously scoop some onto my palms. Rub it between my hands to liquify. Gently smooth throughout face and pat cream in.

Thoughts & Recommendations

Mask // Compared to all the other peel-off masks (charcoal, egg, Japanese, Korean, etc.) I have tried, this Honeyed Pudding Peel Off Facial Mask is unbelievably easy to remove. It is the first peel-off product that my pain intolerant skin can handle. The mask comes off in one piece as long as I wait patiently for the entire thing to dry. I didn't experience any pain as the dried mask is very elastic and soft. My skin isn't red or irritated afterward either.

However! I am not sure if it did much for removing deep-rooted impurities. It seems to pick up the most superficial layer on my face. But the most stubborn dry patches, especially around my mouth, always remain. My pores also don't look less clogged. While my skin feels softer after the mask, it definitely doesn't feel "nourished" like the product promised...a moisturizer is needed as a followup.

Cream // For something that is formulated with honey, I thought it would be pretty tacky and heavy. Kudos to the brand for formulating and accurately describing the Honey Pudding Cream as something that leaves no heaviness or stickiness. The cream sinks into my skin quickly and leaves it feeling plump, moisturized, hydrated, nourish, etc. You name it, I felt it at one point! I think the cream set a new mark in the moisturizing game for me.

Albeit, I did try the small jar of cream out mostly in the humid and hot summery NYC days...I wonder how it would fair in the cooler and drier weather? Even with the humidity, the cream does tend to lose its magical touch throughout the day on the driest areas of my face (i.e. chin and surrounding lower jaw area).

I would very highly consider repurchasing this if I am looking for a peel-off mask in my routine or want a highly nourishing cream. BUT I am not sure if it is worth paying the original retail prices (₩30,000 - close to USD $30) for the set. I would have a serious mental debate even if the set was ~USD $20. The mask was nice but not that nice. Although I really enjoyed using the cream a lot more than the mask, a regular full-sized jar of it costs ₩56,000 - close to USD $56...with that tag it is a pretty luxe product. If I never find a better performing & more affordable moisturizer or I find that specific cream available for a lower price (~USD $30, plus or minus) I would come running back at full speed to this moisturizer.

Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream

lavlilacs Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream Review

K-beauty has some really interesting and bizarre ingredients: horse oil, donkey milk, goat milk, snake venom, bee venom, and snail slime. Nothing ever really piqued my interest since I took them all as marketing gimmicks. I would probably never have tried the Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream had my friend not passed a tube on to me. The concept and promises of snail mucus are appealing but I am not 100% sold on it from this product alone.

Packaging

The box that the cream comes in doesn't have any information in English to help sell the benefits of snail slime. I tried to Google translate the Korean; it mentions something along the lines of how the slime has the ability to "restore skin strength and vitality" and "provide smoothing effects" for skin texture and wrinkles. There are many beauty blogs, beauty/fashion editorials, and Western-catering e-commerce sites that claim snail mucus to have impressive healing capabilities while having great moisture holding power.

For a product that retails close to $20, the packaging is surprisingly basic. I presume the price is due to the "74% snail secretion" that makes this cream so special. I can only imagine how many snails and how much time is needed to produce the number of gel creams people demand.

The packaging looks and feels like an inexpensive drugstore lotion that come in a standard plastic tube with a twist off lid. If something comes in a tube, I generally prefer it to have a flip-top lid; one less thing to fumble with during my morning and night routines.

At 45ml/1.52oz, it is a great size for traveling, especially via air since the tube comes in under the 100ml/3.4 oz limit. The Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream seems to be on promotions often so I wouldn't count the price tag as a disadvantage. Heck, my friend generously gave me this tube saying she purchased a set of two for ~$12.

lavlilacs Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream swatch

Color, Texture, Finish, & Scent

Since the product is formulated without synthetic colors and fragrances the gel cream is cloudy-clear straight out of the tube and scent-free. It turns more transparent as it is worked into the skin. There is an initial tacky sticky feeling one would assume snail secretion to have, but that sensation doesn't last. It doesn't even look glossy for long. The gel absorbs pretty fast and I can barely feel any residue once my skin drinks it up.

How I Apply

Moisturizer // Generously applied all over the face and neck. First rubbed the cream between my palms and then patted it in.

Spot treatment // Very generously dabbed onto scabs, dried-out burn wounds, and pimples.

Thoughts & Recommendations

As a moisturizer for combination skin with a lot of flakes, there are better products out there. It isn't deeply moisturizing no matter how much I apply or even if I combine an oil with the gel cream. The more normal and oily parts of my face felt alright, but the drier and flakier areas have a tendency to feel a little tight and even look flakier as the day progresses. It doesn't work well under any mattifying makeup.

As a spot treatment, I was pleasantly surprised. It does seem to heal wounds and blemishes a little faster than if I had not use the cream. The concentrated spots of dry skin around scabs came off more easily and any bumps flattened out a smidge quicker. Nothing is instantaneous, however. The scabbiness doesn't go away after only one spot treating session...more like multiple times a day for several days.

The gel cream is nice to use on wounds if it's sitting on my vanity. This product just isn't so amazing that I would go out of my way to repurchase it for the sole purpose of treating burns and blemishes. I won't miss it when I finish up the tube. However, I am slightly more interested than before in trying higher concentrated snail creams. We'll see...
