First EOTD (from yesterday)
Some of you may or may not already know this but I very rarely wear any eye makeup. The closest makeup product that goes by the eye area that I'll confidently leave on all day is concealer/corrector. Yup..no eyeliner, no mascara, not even curled eyelashes. But since prom is only a month away (mine is very late!), I decided to experiment especially since I really have no more excuses now that I'm not going to be as busy on weekends. Must leave my comfort zone!!
I'm very glad and thankful that I won some palettes from previous giveaways so I have something to start with. Today I chose to use the Etude House LuciDarling palette that I received from coco about a month ago (post coming up soon! sorry!). I had some idea of what I was doing since I do spend a lot of time watching videos and tutorials & there is a drawing/guide on the palette itself. But essentially I was just winging it because I've never actually applied eyeshadow and such on myself.
Etude House LUCIDarling Fantastic Gradation Eyes - #06 Golden Brown (Colors A, B, and D)
Milani Liquif Eye Metallic Eyeliner Pencil - Brown
Missha The Style 4D Mascara
I didn't curl my lashes. So that's why they're so straight. Not the mascara's fault! (I will try them again when I do curl my lashes and see how well that goes.)
Excuse my eyebrows! I don't normally fill in my brows & I recently tried to pluck out what I thought were 'stray' hairs and I think I made them look funny =X I'm regretting my rashness...
I nearly poked my eyes out trying to tight line and put on mascara! lol *Sigh* I'm such a newbie...
A few hours in when I was walking around CVS, I noticed that the shadow transferred/smudged onto my lower lashes area. I'm thinking this problem is easily fixed with primer right? What are some good ones? I think my eyelids are oily...
I like ur EOTD! i have been wearing brown shadow and liner recently.
ReplyDeleteI do like the Milani liners too.
I like the NARS primer but it is the most expensive (26) I thought the UD one was very tacky and the TFSI a bit watery
Lilladylife: Thank you! I was afraid it would turn out bad =X I need to go back to Sephora in a few weeks after everyone gives me suggestions (hopefully). At least when I get the primer I guess I'll have a reason to continue to use more eye makeup lol
ReplyDeleteYou have a really nice eye shape :D It's great that you're practicing for prom ahead of time so you have an idea of how you're going to do your makeup and how it's going to look.
ReplyDeleteI think your eyes would look even brighter and prettier if you smudged a bit of dark brown shadow on the outer 1/3 of your lower lash line :D Just my suggestion but you don't have to take it ^^
I use Urban Decay Primer Potion everyday and it works well for me. I actually have samples of the Nars and Benefit primers and a full size TFSI but I haven't tried them yet lol. If you order from E.L.F the $3 mineral eye primer is good too!
AngelicBetrayal: A rare comment about my eyes :D (They're usually hidden by my glasses.) I'll try that tip next time. I almost forgot about the good reviews the elf mineral primer had! I wonder if the target I go to will have it..save me the trouble of ordering :P
ReplyDeleteLooks good on you!!! :) I do love the neutral eyeshadow, because it gives your eyes definition :D
ReplyDeleteRainy Days and Lattes: Thank you! ^__^
ReplyDeleteYou have pretty eyes! I heard that Bare Escentuals eye primer is good for oily lids :) I've never tried it though.. But I used the infamous UD Primer potion for the longest time and I'm pretty happy with it! I don't know what color is your dress, but since it's your prom, I would recommend adding a little bit more drama to your eyes! You don't need to do a super sultry smokey eyes but maybe using a very black liquid liner to get a sharp line and keep the same wonderful eyeshadows! I used some neutral shades too when it was my prom and I didn't put on mascara & liner.. I totally regret it because I'm sure that my eyes would've stood out more!
ReplyDeleteBut anyways it's your prom, it's your night so do whatever you feel the most comfortable with and I wish you a lot of fun!! :D
LittoMokaa: Wow thanks for the suggestions :D I was actually going to post up my dress soon. But figured I should leave this post running for a few days for more suggestions.
ReplyDeleteDang! This is really really good like REALLY AWESOME for a sort of first time putting on eye makeup~ haha
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, I always get smudges when I tight line too. I don't know what the problem is, but I just tend to avoid tight lining in general because I feel like my lashes keep on falling out when I try to remove the frickin liner. teehe. But I don't think that the smudging is due to a priming problem. I think that it is more like the eyeliner is not very suitable to one's skin type. So I learned a way to test whether or not a eyeliner will smudge on you. You just basically swatch that liner on your hand, and then just like swipe the oiliest part of your face and rub that swatch. See if it smears~ yup yup :P
Popcorn: LOL Must try that! I think it might have been a combination of both eyeshadow smudging and eyeliner smudging. (The photo doesn't show it though because I took it off before I took the pictures.) Ekk I didn't realize that tightlining could make me lose my lashes..Ah!! I don't want to have even less =X
ReplyDeleteI love reading your post! You're so funny lol :) Don't worry about being new to makeup and applying it because I am too! I'm definitely going to follow you now. Please check out my blog and follow too if you like what you see :) Thanks in advance!

Huda Kaake: Thank you! Such a rare praise for me to hear :P
ReplyDeleteUD pp is a good eye primer :) i like how muted this EOTD is!!! sometimes less is more!
ReplyDeleteJennifer: I'm going to sephora (hopefully) tomorrow to check some out :] I figured it'd be best to test UDPP and the nars ones since it's the most popular. ^__^
ReplyDeleteYou have pretty eyes!!! haha I'm so used to seeing you with glasses (your profile pic :P) that I stared at these pics XD are you sure it's the eye shadow smudging??? maybe it's the pencil eyeliner? pencil eyeliners never really work for me lol. But definitely use a primer :D can't suggest one since I haven't used a primer that completely prevents my eyeliner from smudging. I think finding a good eyeliner is more important :)
ReplyDeleteFrances: Thanks!! I'm not use to seeing myself without glasses either =X I've had glasses since I was in the third grade (9-10yrs old!). Honestly I'm not too sure whether it's the eyeshadow or pencil eyeliner. I should try it separately to pinpoint the problem because I've had smudging problems with pencil eyeliners before. Hopefully primer will help. If not I'll just have to research and buy another type of liner b/c I really like how liner makes my eyes look LOL :D
