Chinese New Year Parade @ 8th Avenue

Yesterday was the day of the annual CNY parade on 8th avenue, hosted by the Brooklyn Chinese-American Association. And recently (last few years), it's become a tradition(?)/habit for my family to go down there and just absorb the festive atmosphere.

It does get redundant after going for so many years. But this year I was excited to take photos with my DSLR. I didn't get to take as many AMAZING photos as I wanted but it was fun nonetheless. My first adventure with my new camera :] I hope to do this more often around the city in the upcoming months ^__^

I did take much more photos. Many were very random..just for fun shots while others had people in them. I don't think those people would like to see photos of themselves online without permission. =X

------------------------------

On our way back to the car I saw this lovely little fella (or gal idk which one lol). It was just sitting there. Wonder what it was waiting for? I felt so sorry for it after my horrible brother threw snow at it =.=;; I hope it's alright!

Our choice for lunch. Usually, when we're at 8th avenue as a family we either go yum cha or eat Vietnamese food. I wanted to try something different for once, especially since my brother never likes to try new foods (he's missing out!). This is my second or third time eating Malaysian food..ever (that I can remember). It was yummmyy! ^__^

Roti Canai

Hainanese Chicken with Rice

Hainanese Chicken with Rice (Chicken Broth Rice)

My favorite!!! My mom thinks it's because apparently she made similar type noodles often when I was younger...No wonder why they looked familiar! lol

  10. DinaXYYan: It wasn't all too exciting. Mostly little kids/young teens with their friends playing with silly string xD I wished I went to the (probably more exciting) one in Chinatown in the city. I heard they had firecrackers :D

abby | ybba: Thank you! ^__^ I love to take pictures. I found a new hobby last year but haven't had time to actually do it until recently. Hope to share more photos soon! LOL You dont have to have chinese blood to celebrate two new years. If there is some celebration going on by where you live just go and have fun!

  13. Frances: A DSLR (if you haven't googled it yet lol) is just a more "professional" camera than the normal point-and-shoot cameras people use. It's a very expensive hobby :X

It was exciting..I guess to watch all the little kids play with silly string lol I only wished this small festivity could have had firecrackers like the one in Chinatown in the city. Too bad I missed it because of school =(

  14. I think your hobby is gonna get professional. The photos look good. I've wanted to try photography as a hobby seeing nice photos on flickr but I hear of my friends buying thousands worth of lens and I think I should not start. And oh I love love love the fluffy feline. It's rare to see stray cats in New York right? I was there 2 christmas back and I don't see strays around. Probably coz it's too cold? I stayed at Brooklyn for 2 days too. I love the peacefulness of the place.

  15. Jo: Really? Thanks for the encouragement :P Ah..whenever I go to flickr I always end up feeling amazed and jealous! I haven't bought any new lenses yet, but it's not going to be nice on my wallet. Maybe I'll just wait and "hope" (ask..lol) for some lenses as prizes xD I've seen quite a lot of stray cats in NY actually..more in Brooklyn I than the city. There are a few that I always see in my neighborhood but they don't look as pretty as this one lol Depending on where you go Brooklyn is very calm compared to Manhattan. But I think the other boroughs like Staten Island and parts of Queens probably dead silent in comparison!
